Developing an optimum service level

The exact timetable for Crossrail has yet to be confirmed but development work to date envisages a peak hour service of 24 trains an hour in each direction between Paddington and Whitechapel. The table below shows the anticipated Crossrail trains per hour at each Crossrail station plus any additional trains serving Crossrail suburban stations which start/finish at Paddington or Liverpool Street high level (ie mainline) stations.

During the peak and from the west, four trains will start at Maidenhead, four from Heathrow and two from West Drayton, giving a total of 10 services to be joined by 14 starting from Paddington, making up the 24 an hour. East of Whitechapel, 12 peak services will run to Shenfield and 12 to Abbey Wood. Outside the central London section some services will be limited stop and not call at all stations.

West of Paddington, Crossrail stations will also be served by Great Western services with two trains an hour from Reading calling at Twyford, Maidenhead, Slough, Hayes and Harlington and Ealing Broadway to Paddington; two trains an hour from Reading calling at Twyford, Maidenhead, Taplow, Burnham and terminating at Slough; one through train from Henley on Thames to Paddington; and one through train from Bourne End to Paddington.

Through services from Greenford to Paddington will cease with a new, high frequency Greenford shuttle connecting with Crossrail services at West Ealing where a dedicated platform will be built. Crossrail services will replace the existing Heathrow Connect stopping trains.

Along the Great Eastern corridor, Crossrail's 12 trains per hour peak service will replace 10 of the 16 trains currently provided by National Express East Anglia. The remaining six National Express trains will continue to serve Liverpool Street.

Crossrail planners are hoping to provide a consistent seven day service at all stations on the Crossrail routes.
